Joint Flexibility & Cushioned Mobility

Leading an active life requires that you can freely move without pain. In general, from the age of 2 until about 40 years old, we experience few limitations in our abilities to work, enjoy recreation, participate in sports, and climb stairs. However, as we age beyond 40 years old, we commonly experience physical limitations. Some limitations are only temporary or easily fixed with surgery. However, there are chronic conditions that can place a major road block in front of our active lives. One of life's most feared chronic conditions is arthritis. Arthritis limits the flexibility of the joints, causes pain and limits mobility. When we are young and mobile it is easy to dismiss the future chances of disability. Arthritis leads to loss in joint flexibility, increase in joint inflammation, increase in stiffness and increase in pain. The arthritic individual learns very quickly the importance of joint flexibility and cushioned mobility.

The body contains many joints that allow the body to move. Look at your hands. Their ability to quickly and painlessly grasp objects or type at the computer is the result of joint flexibility. Consider your knees and hips. Without proper knee and hip cushioned mobility, it would be painful to walk, jump, skip, run, and pedal. The human body can not properly function without flexible joints to cushion the body in action and to articulate movements.
